Iramoo Community EcoLiving Centre

Iramoo Community EcoLiving Centre will be based on retrofitting an existing house, and demonstrate key features for sustainable living across waste, water, energy and biodiveristy in the West.

The EcoLiving Centre will develop programs and projects that implement Victoria-wide sustainability learning and change initiatives.

The EcoLiving Centre is a partnership between Victoria University, Brimbank Council, City West Water, Friends of Iramoo, St Albans Community Centre, and other key community partners.

A two stage strategy has been identified for development of the Iramoo EcoLiving Centre.

Stage 1 will formulate & develop a management structure for the EcoLiving Centre, develop conceptual plans & lay out the detailed construction plan.

Stage 2 will develop detailed site plans & concept development; identify a suitable house for relocation; as well as develop processes for extending/building & piloting sustainability learning & training programs and projects, as EcoLiving Centre construction gets under way.

The Iramoo Community EcoLiving Centre will draw on and extend the existing Iramoo facilities at St Albans, including Iramoo's Native Plant Nursery, Education Discovery Centre, Green Lab, Waterwise Demonstration Gardens, Seed Orchard, Education Trail, Wastewater treatment demonstration ponds, Composting and Recycling Facilities, and integrate with programs and projects of the Moondani Balluk Indigenous Academic Unit based at Iramoo.

This will include linking programs and community engagement at the EcoLiving Centre with the facilities at the new Green SmartHouse at Sunshine Further Education campus of VU.
